Rare Saturday Update: The Top Five....

Hey people. Just popping in on a Saturday to check things out. I may do this from time to time with various top fivery.

Today I offer my list of the best songs ever.

1. (tie) "Hey Jude" and "Let it Be" by the Beatles
2. "Stand by Me" by Ben E. King
3. "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones
4. "Age of Consent" by New Order
5. "Bleeding Heart Show" by The New Pornographers

This list is not open for discussion or debate. There will be no disagreements as this is not a manner of opinion, but rather cold hard facts. [citation needed]

  1. YES!!!

My theme song made it as #1. Oh sorry I don't mean to comment about it, just confirming what is true and the sad truth is that I don't even own that song. I guess that means I lack integrity.

  2. Being old and jaded, I'd knock out #2 with King's "The Thrill is Gone."

Also, I have a warning for you all:

  3. B,
Cool logo! It has the feel of suede! It also has a certain old-timey mysteriousness going on. Good job. I think you must have achieved what you were going for!

  4. Technically, Stand By Me should be #3, and Bleeding Heart drops of the list, because it's #6.

And you left off Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd. Hmmm. (This is not opinion, but fact!)

  5. I also forgot "Gimme Shelter." List-making is difficult business.

logo-meister, glad you like it! It will probably go through a few changed before I'm completely satisfied though.

  6. Did you make that list in a drunken stupor? I'm just saying it's weird.
I myself would take a more folksy approch to my top 5. Maybe you should consider bob dylan as part of you 5.
    Just a suggestion.

  7. I would suggest more New Order songs. Like maybe 4 more.

  8. Probably no one will ever read this because it's getting nigh on 10 days old and nothing holds anyone's attention span for that long, but I want to comment for my own sake (it's too much trouble to make my own blogspot). Chicken scratches.

    Wicked Game - Chris Isaak
    Why - Annie Lennox
Fields of Gold or Ghost Story by Sting, just about anything he does is magic
    18 - Moby
Night Ride Home - Joni Mitchell
Last Train Home - Pat Metheny
    (Why limit yourself to 5?)
The Connection - Emmy Lou Harris, I never get tired of her. "Quarter Moon in a ten cent town" now there's a great line.
All of "Hinterland" - Strange Cargo
Pachelbel Canon - by the Jean-Francois Paillard Chamber Orchestra
Ode to Joy - Beethoven (someone stole my soundtrack to Immortal Beloved)
I don't care what anybody says, "Walking in Memphis" by Marc Cohn, especially if you hear it performed live. For that matter you can add Paper Walls and One Safe Place.
The list goes on. Anyone heard of Ayman?

Ahh, it's good to remember. Sorry, B. Didn't mean to intrude, but I'll thank you for allowing me to express myself on your forum, even though you specifically asked us not to ;)

I guess the deal is there is no top five best songs, because it all depends on your associations with that song and what feelings/memories it conjures up for you. Songs are like your friends. Are there five best people in the world to be friends with? Nah, it's just lives intersecting. Time, place, circumstances, shared history.
