Extra Long Weekend Report

The report isn't extra long, the weekend was. In the business we call it a Super Weekend. It's a step above Three-Day Weekend, but several steps down from a Permanent Weekend. A Super Weekend could also be a Lost Weekend, but doesn't necessarily have to be.

So what'd I do? Not as much as I would have liked, but still more than normal. It was pretty great.

  • Went fishing.
  • Did not actually go fishing.
  • Had plans to go fishing, but they were canceled in favor of sleep after a long night of partying instigated by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
  • Okay fine, not Flea, but rather Fleas.
  • I don't have fleas.
  • A couple of my friendses dogses had fleas and they (the friends) wanted to get out of the house for a while, so they came over for an impromptu jam.
  • Helped a friend change a tire.
  • By "help" I mean "watched."
  • By "watched" I mean "sat in the car 30 yards away listening to This American Life on my ipod.
  • But still, I drove a long way.
  • Had some Chinese food that tasted like sterno. Ate it all anyway. Wanted to die.
  • My fortune mentioned that I "have the wisdom of the ages at my fingertips." I presume it was referring to Wikipedia.
  • Saw that new Harry Potter flick.
  • I mentioned Harry Potter in my last Weekend report. I never finished watching the fourth one but at this point I knew enough that I didn't feel lost at all.
  • I loved this movie. Those that have read the book were kinda distracted by how much was left out, but since I went in "fresh" I didn't have that burden on me.
  • Now I'm gonna have to read those stupid books.
  • Seriously, that last wizard battle...so awesome.
  • That's about it. Oh, I also went to San Francisco for a couple days. Maybe I'll tell you about that later.

wash away the rain

Sorry no updates. Been busy.

Check this out:

Lately the sun has been the color of a Ruby Red grapefruit. That's because right now over 90% of the state of Utah is on fire. They say the fire was started a couple weeks ago by idiots firing guns out in the dry desert. Can you believe anyone would so irresponsible?

Weekend Report - a day late

Um... pass.

Okay fine.

Friday Night
  • Got home from work, fell asleep.
  • Woke up, took a shower.
  • Fell asleep.
Saturday
  • Went to work at damn 7am. It sucked.
  • An otherwise nice woman said to me: "Are you from the South? No? Well, I'm not being rude here, but the people in the South literally do not have an ounce of intelligence among them." Bold words.
  • I like the South.
  • Too humid though.
  • But they have the best cemeteries.
  • Of course, I've never been to Europe.
  • After work me n' Terrence Rex tried to obtain a copy of Trainspotting. Blockbuster didn't have it and we were gonna go to Hollywood Video but got distracted by Little Caesars. Instead of Trainspotting we enjoyed a hot n' ready and watched Band of Brothers (episode 3: Carentan) for literally the millionth time.
  • Sat around for a while as various people came and went.
  • Went to the free Jazz fest at the City and County Building. I wish I'd had my camera because the City and County Building looks great in the evening's dimming light.
  • On the way there we saw this old guy. I mean really old. He was sitting in a chair on his front lawn, and he was all leathery and had an insanely long white beard. He was a real life version of Jasper from The Simpsons (google him). We were all so amazed we had to drive by again.
  • Ran into an old friend I've not seen in a while. We acknowledged each other and kept walking without missing a step.
  • Is it okay to admit that I don't really care about jazz? I mean, I like the classics just fine, and I enjoy nighttime jazz on the local public radio station, but other than that I'm not really into it, y'know?
  • Besides, the music I heard wasn't jazz at all, but some cruel hybrid of jazz, funk, and blues, watered down and weak sauced. I don't think people even write this music, it just happens.
  • Scott and Andy (who you don't know, unless you do) engaged in a hula hoop battle. That was something. Also saw a Jazz Guy going crazy with his mad hula hoop skillz.
  • Jazz Guy = frizzy hair, jean shorts, cell phone on belt, fancy silk cabana shirt, beer in hand. Jazz Guy was out in full force on this night.
  • (not to be confused with Utah Jazz Guy. Maybe we'll talk about him next year).
  • Thanks to my Richard Winters-esque quick thinking (google him) I totally rescued dessert for everybody, even though it meant sacrificing my own coffee to room temperatureness.
  • Second attempt at Trainspotting. The long-hair working at Hollywood hadn't even heard of it. Aren't video store clerks supposed to be film geeks?
  • Nothing else at the video store, nothing else at the Red Box.
  • Back to the house (not my house) to watch Harry Potter 4. I don't know anything about Harry Potter. I saw the third one in the theatre but slept through it because I'd been hiking all day.
  • Left after 45 minutes. Not because the movie was bad, but because I so tired.
  • (I left out the part about how Saturday night I was in the worst mood ever).
Sunday
End.

Friday, July 6, 2007

Hey people, I posted a short story over at another blog. Go read it, if you've the time.

http://scratchedpaper.blogspot.com/

It's a heartbreaking tale, though I hesitate to use the word genius since that word gets thrown around so much these days.

While you're there read the work by friend "Rip Colbert." There's also a nice Langston Hughes poem if you're in the mood.

Canyonero

Thursday neon for you from the sleepy burg of Tusayan, AZ. Snapped these last February while on a road trip to the south rim of the Grand Canyon.

Not my favorite pictures by any means, but it was an awesome trip, so yeah.

We stayed at the Red Feather Lodge. I don't know how old it is, but the name alone invokes a bygone era.

The bygone era I'm referring to is back when the Native Americans still roamed the land.

Tusayan isn't exactly a happening place, and our first night there we went in search of food at the city's only luxury hotel, the Holiday Inn Express. Did not find food, but did find this.

Here's the Red Feather during daylight hours. When I took this I was outside by myself and the air was completely still save for the cries of a thousand crows. I thought I had walked out into Dawn of the Dead or maybe The Stand.

There ya go.
By the way, one of the other blogs I participate in, Adventure Squadron, has been updated with an entry from Joy. Go over and ch-ch-check it out.

Independence Day

It is a great day in American history. Eleven years ago today the movie Independence Day was released. My, how time flies.

I hope President Thomas Whitmore's speech means as much to you as it does to me.

"Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!"

For the ladies!

Last week I set a new standard for this blog by posting pictures of HOT BABES!

It was an unprecedented success. I received a record number of views that day.

But I'm guessing that I get even more views today. Seems that the majority of my readers are female, and they have been demanding this for a very long time. Almost six days in fact. And I am here to deliver.

Without further ado, pictures of sexy sexy gentlemen...

Although, you might wonder why I have all these pictures in the first place. I have stated many times that I am all man, my Mortal Kombat skills notwithstanding, so why do I have a collection of beefcake pictures?

Because I know what you want, fine ladies of blogland. If there's one thing I can do, it's please a lady.

*ahem*

Okay seriously, without further ado, it's manwich time.

'cause you see ladies, you like a guy that may be phenomenally smooth and handsome, but is still hopelessly devoted to you.

You like a guy that puts your needs first.

You like a fella that'll give 110%, all the time.

Or maybe a guy that's not afraid to get in touch with his feminine side.

How about a dude that's so in touch with his feminine side that you can't even tell which side is which?

You want an hombre that will wow you, razzle dazzle you.

You like a man with a confident sneer.

A man that knows how to relax comfortably.

You DON'T like Lou Ferrigno when he's angry.

But you do like Karl Malone when he's oily.

An accent drives you wild.

Even when it's the same accent as your own (don't think I've forgotten about you, my Australian....uh, Sheilas?)

Sometimes all it takes is a tan and a smile.

Nothing beats a full head of hair.

Or a full neck of hair.

But the sophisticated gals that read this blog know that bald is beautiful too.

But sometimes you want a man with hair that will stay in place no matter what.

You like dudes that know how to party.

It's true, sometimes you fall for the bad boy.

Sometimes you fall for the really bad boys.

Or the really really bad boys.

But not all nice guys finish last.

Lastly, I know that all you starry-eyed girls love that scene in Say Anything when John Cusack holds the boom box outside of the window. But think how much better that scene would have been if instead of a boom box, he was singing to her directly? And what if instead of John Cusack, it was some shirtless guy? Now that is great cinema.

Well, there ya go.
