I voted today, and I found it to be rather exhilarating. Does that make me a "square?" Am I not "cool" enough for your hip coffee jazz clubs, daddio? Well if believing in democracy (or representative republics) makes me a square, than by golly I guess I'm a square.

ReplyDeleteI like the whole "vote if you feel like it" thing. It means people need to care. Of course, the down side is that a small, well organised minority ends up running the country, but hey... is that so different to anywhere else?
ReplyDeleteHere in Oz, voting's compulsory. That means people who have no real right to vote (because they haven't earned it by taking the slightest interest in politics between elections) end up choosing the next government.
The small, well organised minority knows this, of course, so they just build brand loyalty and the sheep do the rest.
There has to be a better way, but I'm afraid my small straw brain can't think of it.
